This is Me, Ekua Cant!

Hello!

Hi, I’m Ekua Cant, and I’ve been coaching since 2016. I am a motivator, and work to empower women to reach their full potential by building their self-confidence. I work with you so that you become your No. 1 Cheerleader!

My Mission

My mission is to help everyone to become their No. 1 Cheerleader, by helping them build confidence and self-belief, dispel negative internal chatter, and shrink their imposter syndrome.

Mission Statement:

To spread the power of self-belief. To let you access your unlimited potential.

I believe that everyone can become their No. 1 Cheerleader and learn to express themselves authentically with confidence.

How I became my No. 1 Cheerleader

In 2018, I left the Civil Service and its orbit. I’d spent ten years as a Civil Servant as an IT and digital project manager, working on multi-million pound transformation projects. But I was being called to do something different, and that’s when I decided to start a company called DrinksBot.

DrinksBot was founded to provide an inclusive craft drinks experience to office workers in London. Our services included everything you would need for office drinks, an on-demand drinks service via a Slack chatbot, and robot hire. Before DrinksBot, I expressed my entrepreneurship through the following startups:

  • Hackathon Queen - A thematic hackathon events experience.

  • Layover Adventure - An Airbnb community for travellers to network and be provided with activities to do during a stopover between flights.

Creating and building multiple startups taught me a lot. For example, I learned how important it is to create a “team” around your business (and that this can be in the form of advisors rather than team members, per se). Finally, your ability to receive and assess feedback is vital to your success. I didn’t used to be as good at listening to feedback. Now I am much better through a lot of dedicated practice! Finally, your mindset is vital for your endurance in building your business and your life. As a result, my mindset has shifted to a growth mindset and one of optimism.

Mindset is everything!

Mindset is everything!

It was after the crash, burnout, and total devastation of the failure of DrinksBot that I decided to invest in the one business closest to my heart. There is no business more personal than one which relies upon you believing 100% in yourself and showing up in the service of others. It was the one venture that I had been too afraid to attempt because of my own imposter syndrome and feelings of not being good enough. Throughout my life, I have faced my fair share of challenges, including  managing two learning difficulties, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. However, this has never stopped me from reaching my potential. Instead, I’ve relied on my strong drive, motivation, and learning attitude to always pull me through.

Believe me when I say I am no stranger to start-ups and entrepreneurship in London. Be Your No. 1 Cheerleader is my 4th business. It’s also the one that has truly made use of my gifts and talents which are motivating, building confidence and coaching others.

Since Jan 2020, I have decided to put myself out there as a Career Coach and to focus my practice on helping women navigate career change. I coach women to revitalise their CVs and also represent their skills and experience as their “best Sasha Fierce”.

Through this, I came to realise I was more than “just a Career Coach''. I was also a Confidence Coach who was cheerleading my clients through their career transition, as I was supporting my clients to refresh their CV’s. I was also talking to them about speaking more confidently about their skills and experience. I realised that I was helping my clients to build positive mental mind muscle and, as such, was providing a more holistic service than simply a CV review and update.

Now, I am a motivator, a cheerleader and someone that helps you to create a more positive mindset. We become partners in working to help you unleash your ‘Sasha Fierce’ through the tone of your CV and in speaking about your  career accomplishments. In addition to that, I have a wealth of knowledge of “starting-up” (as I’ve started 3 start-ups)! I am well-travelled and was raised in an Armed Service Family and consider myself to be a “third culture kid”. And quite possibly “culturally American!” Which is why I am now focussed on coaching American Expat Women to find their inner cheerleader in addition to helping Ambitious Career Women to step up as leaders in their industries.

I am a coach who famously goes by this mantra: “Make a Plan, Take Action and Stay Focussed.” I am there to cheer you along and help you through any challenges in meeting your ambitions. I have rich experience in helping clients to startup businesses, move countries, attain new jobs, speak up for themselves and grow in confidence.

Through my experiences as a multiple start-up founder, I have learned how mindset and attitude set you apart in your ability to navigate building a successful start-up. I’ve also learnt that mindset is what sets apart the most successful people. It’s here I can support you on your journey to build what I like to call “positive mental mind-muscle” and help you to become your No. 1 Cheerleader.  Your life chances and opportunities will be reduced if you don’t adopt an optimistic mindset. If you don’t  take this path, then it will be much harder to fulfil your potential.

Through the process of constant learning and by adopting a “learning attitude”, you will be able to build a stronger business or indeed yourself as an individual. This will build your self-esteem, open your mind to new possibilities and reduce your fear. It will help you to manage change, career transitions, get unstuck, and build up your self-worth. Should you not choose to adopt an optimistic mindset, you’ll diminish your ability to access your full potential and deny yourself the opportunity to create the life you want for yourself. Finally, I’ve learned that not being able “to ask for help” can be  time-consuming and very costly.

My coaching is designed to help you to believe in yourself, to help you to grow and to change in a way that is unique and personal to you. Whether you are changing careers, moving countries, building a start-up or simply building yourself up, I am here to cheer you all the way.

My values and beliefs

  • We are all unique, and therefore our paths are different, and I celebrate that. I advocate that you  build up a tool kit to aid yourself in achieving your goal or desired positive change. That includes building up “positive mental mind-muscle” to help you reduce negative thinking.

  • Self Care is not a luxury. You need to find your own ways to embed it into your life. Only by taking care of yourself can you take care of others.

  • Life (and business) is a team sport  - we definitely don’t need to do it on our own! Build your team of cheerleaders and supporters to help you endure the marathon.

  • Laughter is great for improving your mood and helping you feel more positive about life. Learning to laugh at yourself is vital to building up a resilient and positive outlook.

  • Mental discipline is key to your life, as is building positive mental daily routines. I believe you need to practice these disciplines daily, like training to run a marathon. It takes days, weeks, months, sometimes even years to embed a practice deeply.

  • I believe you should build your dreams with an action plan, goals and timescales. I encourage you to adopt a “learning attitude” so that everything you do helps you to improve.

  • I believe that anyone I work with should be in a place of mental stability. I don’t take on any clients that would be better suited to therapy. I have undertaken the Mental Health First Aid Course, which gives me the skills to recognise clients that might be suited to other professional medical services.

P.S. I know my first name is hard for a lot of people to pronounce, so think of it like this:

Ever seen the “Lion King''? Think about the song that goes “Hakuna-Matata” and you’ll be there. I’m a Ghanian British woman by way of Washington DC and by marriage “Scottish”!
